For this, first you have to open a Word document. Then you should select Insert option and then choose SmartArt. Now, the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box appear on your computer screen. Then you have to go to the left side and just select Process. Here, you have to choose one of the timeline types. After this, you should select OK button. Now the timeline template is inserted into your document, and also with a floating SmartArt Text pane.
