You need to install KB4022155 update for Skype for Business 2016 which is released on June 5, 2018 at www.office.com/ setup and apply the following GPO:
Group Policy settings:
- Open the Group Policy Management panel and found a new Group Policy Object.
- Enter GPO name and source as none
- On the Settings, right-click on User Configuration or Computer Configuration and select Edit.
- Right-click on the registry and select New Registry Item from the drop-down menu. You can deploy the registry key under user configuration or computer configuration.
Specify the Registry information in the form as below:
- Action : “Create”
- Hive : “HKEY_CURRENT_USER”
- Key path : Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync\AddinPreference
- Value name : EnableOptimizeProcessSearch
- Value type : REG_DWORD

Remark that by default, the EnableOptimizeProcessSearch is 0, so you have to create and apply the beyond GPO to permit the issue.
It’s showing orange dot without a count is shown for a conversation in Skype for Business 2016
If you have no any unread messages for any conversation before you sign out MS Skype for Business 2016 and when you sign in again, it may show orange dot without a count is indicated for the conversation.

Skype for Business 2016 or 2015 crashes in a Citrix-based VDI environment
